DESCRIPTION
Create an original typeface design; choose from the following options:

1. MERGE CONTRASTING FONTS
Select 2 fonts from contrasting type design periods and a create a new typeface. It can be display type or body type. Analyze the anatomy and characteristics of each typeface to see which elements can be combines for a new type aesthetic.

2. Helvetica Centennial
Project yourself into the future. Linotype GmbH has chosen you to create a 100th anniversary edition of Helvetica - a modern update of the font composed of destroyed letterforms. What would the 26 characters of this new font look like? How would you associate your work to the legacy of the original font?

3. Handwriting Font
Create a typeface of your own handwriting. Write out about one page of content and analyze how your construct your letterforms, how they flow from one letter to another and the counter form space formed between your letters. There should be consistent type design elements to make it a cohesive typeface.

4. Font for a City
Create distinctive font that can be used for a city’s identity. Think about the culture, mood and attractions of the city and incorporate them into the design characteristics of the typeface.

Design the letters in groups of similar structure (O, Q, R, P, G, D, B, C & E, F, T, H, Y. etc.)

Things to consider:
Type anatomy, the x-height, terminals, serifs and brackets, width of letter, angle of stress, cross-bars, etc.

PRESENTATION
Create a type specimen sheet consisting of all 26 of your letters as well as words and sentences written at bottom of the page.
