Psychopathy represents a personality disorder characterized by tendencies to disregard moral norms despite the ability to correctly distinguish between right and wrong on a cognitive level. It has been though that moral deficits of psychopathy are mainly reflected through willingness to harm others and a certain way of reasoning about rule-based transgressions. Recent research, on the other hand, proposed that morality can be viewed through five psychological systems or moral foundations - issues of harm, fairness, loyalty, authority, and spiritual purity. The present study had three main goals:
1. Assessment of the relationships between psychopathic traits and each of these foundations of morality (which included measures of moral concern and measures of sacredness of the moral foundations)
2. Exploring potential mediators of relationships between psychopathy and the moral foundations – measures of empathy, Social Dominance Orientation, disgust sensitivity and general flexibility/rigidity of individuals’ moral beliefs were included.
3. Assessment of the role of two separate dimensions of psychopathy (Factor 1 includes the personality and emotional features, and Factor 2 includes the antisocial behavioral features of psychopathy) in the relationship between this construct and the moral foundations....
