A study by Finer and Zolna (2014) focused on the rates of intended and unintended pregnancies between 2001 and 2008 and found the rate of unintended pregnancies to have increased significantly especially among women aged between 15 and 45 years. Similarly, the study also found the number of unintended childbirths to have increased from 23% to 27%. Finer and Zolna (2014) also found that the number of unintended pregnancies ending in abortion increased significantly between 2001 and 2008 to reach 51%, which is a significant representation of the country’s pregnancy rate.
