Task
Choose one product that you regularly use as a part of your day-to-day life—food, drink, cleaning supplies, paper products, etc.—and concept 10 ways to redesign or repackage it so consumers will want to use less of it. Then, curate and edit those ideas into a single, solid, refined idea and present it to the class.
Details
• Do your research + creative research:
o Write your design brief.
- Choose the product, research its use, summarize the problem (why might overuse be a bad thing with this particular product, why should we use less of it?), and make sure to give context!
o Exploration:
- I want to see strong wordlists, mind maps, visual brain dumps, morphological matrixes, and visual inspiration.
- It's okay if you don't use all of these tools—pick what works best for you (a couple of options) and just be sure to explore them thoroughly.
- Visual Inspiration IS required.
- This assignment is much more research heavy, so I expect to see some references to actual facts and information—not just conjecture. This is part of the context of the project description and definition of the problem.
• Experimentation:
o 10 ideas of how to reduce use/waste (hand-rendered).
- The point of this assignment is to redesign the packaging or how we use the product itself to emphasize the need to use/consume LESS.
- Please sketch out your rough ideas on a separate sheet of paper (or multiple sheets!), then re-draw and organize your 10 ideas for presentation (on 8.5x11" sheets of paper). Make sure the ideas are labeled with numbers.
- Think about how you presented your logo thumbnails. Clearly labeled, clearly defined, each has enough space, etc.
o The 10 concepts should be for ONE PRODUCT, not 10 different products.
