1. What is the context of the paper-background
Trichomonas vaginalis is the most common non-viral parasitic infection in humans and it can be associated with other diseases such as pelvic inflammatory disease, aggressive prostate cancer and HIV. Recently the genome was sequenced but research on the genomics and proteomics lags far behind that on other parasites that are pathological in humans. This study aims to describe some basic characteristics of the structure of the genome of T. vaginalis and to compare broad differences in populations of the parasite from different sites around the world.   
One aspect of the genome of T. vaginalis revealed by the recently published data is the large size (160Mb) compared to other single celled parasites and the large proportion of Transposable elements which make up approximately 2/3rds of the total genome. While many organisms possess TE’s in their genome, very little is known about them in single celled parasites. They are potentially very valuable in understanding the pathogenicity of T. vaginalis because TE’s provide significant genetic variability to the organism and can enhance the genetic diversity, survival and pathogenicity....
