Students will select a specific topic of interest in Accounting and research it, using the FASB codification database and other accounting and technical research. Be sure to cite the appropriate FASB guidance to justify your position.

Your topic of interest can be a situation/problem at your company or at another company that you need to research, a current hot topic found in accounting literature that you need to know more about, ethical issue or an issue you want to learn more about and how to deal with it (in a practical accounting sense). Your project has to be applied research as mentioned in the Accounting and Auditing Research book page 2.

Week 2: At the end of week 2, you need to submit to the instructor, via email, your situation/problem or topic of interest you will be writing about. In chapter 1, page 11, it mentions Step One: Identify the issue. This is the information you will submit to your instructor to obtain their approval to continue this topic for your Research paper.
Week 3-7: Continue working on your paper using the research steps you learned in the Accounting and Auditing Research book. This will include the following in APA format:
Abstract, Introduction, Analysis, Conclusion and References sections.

Emphasis will be on using critical thinking skills, effective reasoning, writing skills, use of authoritative literature, analysis, recommendations and how did I reach my conclusion? If there alternatives, discuss what they are and how they relate to your issue and your reasoning for not choosing these alternatives. If there are any International issues, please state so. Are there any disclosure requirements and what are they? What would you as a reader of this document want to know about this issue and what other authoritative sources say about it? These are just some of the items you might want to consider when writing this accounting research paper.
