TV watchers tend to record their shows and skip through the commercials...I know I do. I refuse to watch a show at its normal time slot (except for live sporting events).
Advertisers are paying a lot of money to advertise during these shows, but they are reaching less and less of their potential watchers. Plus, you have the growing popularity (and creation) of new series on cable channels such as HBO, Showtime, etc. that don't have commercials.
What are companies going to have to do to get their product message out?
If I want to watch a news video on many sites, I am FORCED to watch an entire commercial (with no skip feature). I have seen some that are 60 seconds long. To me this is very frustrating. YouTube was having a lot of financial problems a few years ago because they had NO revenue stream...therefore they started including ads at the beginning of their videos (but at least you can skip after a few seconds). Is this the best strategy?

Advertising on Facebook continues to grow…and is very successful. Companies can personalize ads to YOU based on your profile, internet searches you have made, and posts you have made. If you haven’t noticed give it a try. Go to the internet and search for a specific type of car. Then go to Facebook and you will see ads for that car on your Facebook page.
Do you think this as a negative or positive? For one, it seems like Facebook is tracking your online viewing and using your personal information to create personalized ads. On the other hand, it’s actually pretty convenient. You are getting ads for products YOU are interested in…which has shown increases the possibility of making a purchase.
