Differences between Qualitative and Quantitative Research:

Quantitative research and qualitative research are different from each other and the differences are explained in detail below: the research that is used to quantify the problem through generating numerical data and with the use of statistics they are used to quantify the opinions, attitudes, behaviors and other variables that are defined is referred to as quantitative research. Qualitative research on the other hand is exploratory research primarily and is used to gain an understanding of the underlying reasons, motivations, and opinions. Qualitative research often provides insights into the development of ideas for potential or future quantitative research. It is used to uncover trends in opinions and thoughts and dives deeper into analyzing a problem. Qualitative Data Collection is opened done through unstructured or semi structured techniques using open ended questions and focus on group discussions and participatory observations. Since the case study analysis in qualitative research is time consuming the sample size is often small in qualitative research (Bryman & Bell, 2015).
In quantitative research, on the other hand, various data collection methods used include online surveys, face to face interviews, mobile surveys, longitudinal studies, etc. Quantitative Data Collection is much more structured than qualitative Data Collection methods.

Characteristics of various research designs:

Descriptive Research Design
Descriptive design analyses and focuses on providing answers to the questions of who, what, where, when and how that are associated with a particular problem of research. In this type of research, information is obtained to update the current status of the phenomenon and to describe what exists with respect to the variables prevailing in the situation. descriptive research is often used as a preliminary to more quantitative research design by giving a general overview and valuable pointers as to what variables are worth to be tested quantitatively. Descriptive Research Design can provide rich data that leads to important recommendations for practice. This approach collects a huge amount of data for detailed analysis.
