"## Assignment template 1) Simulating the Gosper Glider Gun\n",

"This assignment follows on from 'Practical 4. Modules and Functions - Building Conway's Game of Life'. The main objective is:\n",

"Overview: You are tasked with:\n",
"\n",
" - 1. Simulating the Gosper Glider gun from Conway's game of life\n",
" - 2. Introducing a 'spaceship' specie into the simulation and 'assessing' the disruption.\n",
" \n",
"The first task requires you to initialise the 2D Universe of Conway's game of life and run the simulation. The second task is a little subjective but requires you to place a spaceship into the 2D Universe and draw some personal observations about the change in repetitive nature of the Gosper Glider Gun scenario. Specifically, based on the example given in class, we can break this exercise down into a number of steps:\n",

" - Initialise a 2D 'Universe' which we will run our simulation over\n",
" - Define the shape and location of species for the Gosper Glider Gun simulation\n",
" - Introduce a new specie into the simulation\n",
" - Consider a time of simulation\n",

" - What is the challenge and how are you solving it?\n",
" - What modules/functions are you using?\n",

" We also want to see adequate referencing around:\n",
" - What is the original source of the theory and/or data?\n",
" - Comments in the code boxes using the # symbol. Remember that someone might not know what each line of code does.\n",

"You may also want to consider a broader discussion around this challenge. For example: \n",
" - What could be improved? \n",
" - How do you know your results are correct? [i.e. what might improve trust in your simulations?]\n",
" - What if someone wanted to get in touch with you and re-use this code? Any restrictions on data?\n",

"In this project, I will simulate Conway's Game of Life, evaluating specific instances of events occurring within the game. Using Python, I will construct a universe representing the board in the game of life and will place objects on the board. I will run simulations using the board representation and will comment on observable features from the simulation. In the first part of this assignment, I will evaluate the behavior of the \"Gosper Glider Gun\" in Conway's Game of Life, noting the resulting oscillatory behavior. In the second part of this project, I will introduce a spaceship to the simulation, analyzing the behavior of this and evaluating how this transforms the simulation, disrupting and ending the oscillatory behavior of the Gosper Glider Gun. The result of this project will include animations showing simulations in each case."

"### What is the challenge?\n",
"\n",
"The challenge in this project is to develop simulations relating to Conway's game of life. Conway's game of life is a visualization in computer science in which the universe is shown as a 2D array of spaces, where cells in the universe are either living or are dead. Modelled in computer science using binary, each cell can be considered to have a state of 1 or 0. We can represent this universe as a 2D array of integers.\n",

"Conway's game of life progresses in accordance to a set of rules. Each cell progresses to the next state based on the cells surrounding the original cell. Here are the rules of Conway's Game of Life:\n",
"\n",
"- A living cell with fewer than two living neighbors will die due to underpopulation.\n",
"- A living cell with 2-3 living neighbors remains alive.\n",
"- A living cell with more than 3 neighbors dies due to overpopulation.\n",
"- A dead cell with three living neighbors will become living due to reproduction.\n",
