"Today we are going to do a few neat things with dictionaries! The first is we are going to see if Benford's law applies to a text file containing the population of each country in the world!\n",

"The main takeaway here is that if each digit were truly random the **leading** digit of any number should be equally represented, that is to say a digit should have an **11.11%** chance of being the leading digit (remember we don't lead our numbers with zeros)\n",

"How we are going to test this involves reading each population and checking the left most digit, and keep track of in a dictionary. Now, we could have easily done this lab weeks ago by keeping 9 seperate counters and checking if the digit was a 1, increment the 1's counter, if the digit was a 2, increment the 2's counter...you can see where this is getting tedious. The idea behind a dictionary is it can serve as a bunch of counters easily and fast!\n",

"Be careful with the txt file, there are some lines that are NOT numbers (empty lines, words, etc)! I did not do this, I merely am using the file. Rather than clean the file for you, I instead pass the opportunity on to you because once you are in the real world your reality will be one of cleaning and checking rather than just blindly accepting data!"
