In this project you will create a 4-table Oracle database in your VDA. It will have the same tables as your Access database that you created earlier. You will also populate your database with some test data.

Then you will demonstrate that your Oracle database can be accessed and updated via a complete ASP.NET application, using either VB.NET or C# (your choice). Your application only needs to exhibit “minimal functionality” but should be user-friendly and intuitive.

Unfortunately the VDA does not have Visual Studio so you will have to develop your ASP.NET scripts via Notepad or on another system with Visual Studio and then upload your .NET files to the VDA.

There is an ODBC DSN called "CMIS" that have already been created for your in your VDA.

You may create, in advance, and not via your form, some data (e.g., homes, customers, agents, etc.) required for referential integrity from your SALES table beforehand, via SQL Developer. All multi-row displays should use a GridView Web control.

The Assignment

Step 1: Using the same subset of 4 (four) tables from the Project 1 ERD you used for your Access database, develop and run the SQL DDL (data definition language) statements necessary to construct an Oracle database in the VDA. You must include all necessary integrity constraints for your columns and tables. Your constraints must also be explicitly named via the CONSTRAINT keyword, except for NOT NULL constraints.

Put all of your DDL SQL statements in an SQL script file that you can edit and rerun as necessary. You might want to develop and test your SQL script file on an alternative Oracle database first before moving it to the VDA. Oracle Database 11g Express Edition with SQL Developer provides a good option for this.

Your deliverables for this step are:

a copy of your DDL SQL script file
output screen snapshots showing the execution and feedback of all of your DDL SQL via SQL Developer in the VDA

Step 2: Using the appropriate SQL DML (data manipulation language) statements, populate each table in your VDA Oracle database with at least two rows of data each.

Be sure to include a COMMIT statement at the end of your SQL script file.

Once all tables are populated, demonstrate via SQL "SELECT *" statements in your script file that your tables are properly populated.

Put all of your DML SQL and SELECT statements into a single SQL script file.

an SQL script file of all your DML SQL and SELECT statements
output screen snapshots showing the execution of all of your DML SQL and SELECT statements and all feedback and results via SQL Developer in the VDA

Step 3: Develop a Student Web Page that welcomes the user to your RRE ASP.NET Application, and then presents a set of database options (display, update, insert, or delete) for maintaining your SALES table data. The arrangement of your editing options and pages is up to you.

Your deliverable for this step is: a screen snapshot of your Student Web Page in the VDA

Step 4: Develop one or more ASP.NET Web pages that allow for the display (i.e. SQL SELECTs) of your existing RRE sales data.

copies of your relevant source code listings

Step 5: Develop one or more ASP.NET Web pages that allow for the addition (i.e. SQL INSERTs) of new RRE sales data.   

Your deliverables for this step include:
output screen snapshots proving that your INSERT functionalty works properly
copies of your relevant source code listings

Step 6: Develop one or more ASP.NET Web pages that allow for the updating (i.e. SQL UPDATESs) of existing RRE sales data.

output screen snapshots proving that your UPDATE functionalty works properly
copies of your relevant source code listings

Step 7: Develop one or more ASP.NET Web pages that allow for the deletion (i.e. SQL DELETEs) of existing RRE sales data.

output screen snapshots proving that your DELETE functionalty works properly
copies of your relevant source code listings

Take a screen snapshot of the names of your 4 (four) Oracle tables in the VDA. This can be accomplished via the SQL statement “SELECT table_name FROM user_tables”.

Also, do a DESC (i.e. DESCRIBE) of each table and then take a screen snapshot of the columns of each table show in the output.

Take screen snapshots of the contents your 4 (four) Oracle tables in the VDA. This can be accomplished via the SQL statement “SELECT * FROM your_table_name_here <table_name>”.
