2. Integrate application of professional values, service, and accountability when planning for personal, intellectual, and professional development.
For my graduate program, I attended the University of XXXX in XXXX. I had to drive to the campus in XXXX from XXXX every other weekend. In the year 2000, a completely online education was hard to find. I had to drive through extremes of weather and was usually tired from working the day before. A major barrier I had to overcome was my time management as I was in my 20’s then and had a very active social life! I found myself having to find ways to balance my social life with my school work.
In today’s times, technology allows for a completely online program. This certainly makes things more convenient, but there still are challenges. For example, in my online doctoral studies, I had a lot to learn about navigating the web platform for the course. I began to feel really overwhelmed. On top of having to meet course objectives, I had to learn the details of how to navigate the course. Eventually, I was able to conquer the online learning environment and so will you!
What are some barriers that you can think of that could impede success in the online learning environment?
What strategies can you think of to overcome these barriers?

However, there are still challenges to be overcome.
The first challenge is finding the time to take a course. Often, the prospective student has a full time job, a family, or other demands on his or her time and adding a course to that load is difficult. Three hours of lecture time and ten hours of homework per week is a sizable time commitment. Marcia Morgenthaler discusses the perceived barriers to the pursuit of higher education for nurses. These include the time needed, the expense of tuition and books, and the effort required to complete a course. She discusses this in the context of experienced nurses but these factors also affect younger students as well. (Morgenthaler, 2009)...
