QuestionQuestion

Please watch the video: Paul Root Wolpe - It's time to question bio engineering and reflect on the following questions:

1. Do you feel that there should be a limit as to what we do with science -- should science set limits on itself and if so, where do we draw the line.
2. Do you feel that any of the work presented in this video crosses that line, why or why not?
3. Reflect on what was presented in relation to animal testing, particularly in light of the ABC15 “article” on this debate. How do you feel about some of the testing presenting in the video? How do you feel about animal testing in general, why?
Provide a brief synopsis of this video (Ted Talk 2) and then reflect on the following: Nina Tandon - Caring for cells
1-In this video did you see any potential conflicts of interest or other issues associated with project funding? Explain
2-In this video did you see any issues or potential issues associated with clinical trials or the use of animal models? Explain

The word science comes from the Latin “to know” and I do not think there can be a limit set on the pursuit of knowledge. Knowledge has its own limit. That’s sufficient. Once science leaves its own set parameters and becomes pseudo-science, or behaves in a manner that cuts itself off from science, then I think we do have an ethical obligation to intervene. Second, there have been too many cases where limitations have in fact crippled science’s ability to advance. History has shown limits placed on science that today we would laugh at as provincial....
