HW 3: TRAFFIC IMPACT ASSESSMENT OF NEW OFFICE BUILDING DEVELOPMENT

ABSTRACT
New infrastructure developments should be carried out after a thorough traffic impact assessment in order to prevent future negative impacts on traffic flow in road network in close proximity. This report presents an analysis of the traffic impact of a proposed new office building of 10,000 square feet which affects an urban minor arterial. The road network assessed under this project consists of two intersections. Traffic flow data of P.M. peak was used to calculated current LOS and delay. Further, traffic flow was projected for five years under 1% annual growth rate. The LOS and the delay were then estimated for current, future no built and built conditions after five years. The outcome was compared for all three situations. The three conditions were simulated using Vistro simulation software. Number of trips generated from the new office building was estimated using ITE Trip Generation Manual data. This report determined the effect on approach delay and LOS due to the new improvement. It can be identified that the delay is increased at both intersections, while the LOS is decreased at some approaches at both intersections. Several recommendations are presented for improvement of the road network to optimize the traffic flow.
