QuestionQuestion

Calculate the packer-to-tubing force and draw the tension diagram for the tubing under the conditions specified below:

Initially, tubing and annulus are filled with completion fluid (density=density of the mud). Thereafter, the mud in the tubing is replaced by water in water flooding treatment. During the the job, Pi=9000 psi and Po=1000 is applied to the surface of the tubing and annulus, respectively.

-Tubing: 2.7/8 in, 6.17 lb/ft, ID= 2.441 in
-Diameter of the packer bore: 3.25 in
-Slack-off force is 20,000 lbf
-During production, the surface flowing temperature is 220 deg. F.
-During injection, the surface temperature is 60 F.
-Assume a straight line thermal gradient of 1.2 deg. F per 100 F.
-Coefficient of thermal expansion is 6.9e-6 1/F
-E=3 e7 psi
-Poisson’s ratio is 0.3
-Pressure drop due to flow is disregarded.
