Tasks:

1.Create and export (as a .png) an 8.5”x11” topographic map at a scale of 1:50,000 of an interesting area within the extent of the provided data. Your map should:
a.not include any of data from the cdem folders
b.include and style features from following shape files: contour_1, elevation_point_0,residential_area_2, road_segment_1, waterbody_2, watercourse_1, wooded_area_2. Include features from other provided shape files at your discretion
c.have appropriate styles for index and interval contours. To do this, explore the elevations of the contour lines (see the attribute named: ‘e’). Decide/define what the index contours should be for your map. Make sure that you label the index contours.
d.use an appropriate coordinate reference system
e.include a title, scale, legend, north arrow, etc.(10 marks)

2.Create and export (as a .png) a second 8.5”x11” map of the terrain for the same area. On this map:
a.include the DEM (cdem_dem.tif) and hillshade (cdem_hillshade.tif). Use transparency effects and/or color rendering/blending effects to achieve an effective visualization of the landscape.
b.include major roads (from road_segment_1), and water bodies (waterbody_2)
c.incorporate additional layers as you see fit to create an effective terrain map
d.use an appropriate coordinate reference system
e.include a scale, title, legend, north arrow, etc.(10 marks)

3.Describe what choices you made when deciding which layers to include on top of the dem/hill shade on your second map. Which of the two map maps that you just created do you prefer and why? Is one map better than the other? (5 marks)
