Question
TOPIC: Choose one musical genre/style, composer/artist, or significant piece of music (historic or contemporary) and write a well-researched paper making (and supporting with evidence)an argument about the ways in which it is the product and/or expression of one or multiple encounters between various human traditions/cultures. Your paper should:
1)offer a solid history of how this musical piece/figure/genre came to be (what is it? when was it created? Who is it?) ;
2) explain how it developed over time (what factors contributed to it? did it change over time?), and
3) provide a careful analysis of what makes “it” a multi-cultural production(or a person at the junction of several cultures).
You can outline cultural, social, economic, political and religious “mixings” relevant to your topic. The goal is to use your topic as an in-depth case-study of global musical developments since 1500s and how they follow larger patterns we see in historical events/ideologies/movements during this period.

Currently, opening ones ears to world music creates an impression of opening one’s life to a vast realm of cultural, economic, social and political possibilities. In fact, Davis claims that music seems to usher various types of cultural exploitation and expansionism . Davis adds that music is an instrument for articulating globalisation and the different dynamics in the manifestation of the global process. This paper seeks to argue that music is an instrument of globalisation since it is mobile, consequently easily commoditised, and it is primarily social therefore enhancing the understanding of globalisation. Since time in memorial, music has been embedded in cultural and political practices of different social communities. This means that a deep understanding of music can offer insights on how individuals from diverse backgrounds interact and engage with one another in an attempt to break boundary and cultural constraints. The paper will examine blues as a genre of music and its historical development to its modern form. In addition, the paper will examine the multi-cultural aspect of blues.
The blues music is an illustration of the African American worker whose emotion is married to these songs
