Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the way in which victimization is addressed in the contemporary American society. To achieve this purpose, analytical review of related literature is conducted. It has been revealed that there are, indeed, a series of programs that the criminal justice system has instated to prevent victimization and intervene in the cases where the problem is prevalent. However, the foundation of these methods is still weak and this is the main reason for the inability of the criminal justice system to fight off the challenge efficiently. It has been established that the current methods mostly emphasize retribution yet there are clear indications that restorative and restitution-oriented techniques are showing some promise. Owing to the current criticisms concerning this cause, there is a high chance that the criminal justice system will focus on restitution. Nonetheless, there is a need for integrating new options so that the restitution process can be holistic so that all the needs of the victims can be bet more optimally. The changes have to be based on Beniamin Mendelsohn’s theoretical perspectives about victimology.

Introduction
Victimology has increasingly become a major area of interest among both academic and non-academic commentators. This applies in particular to the American context in which individuals and groups have expressed their discontent in the way victimization is handled or addressed by the criminal justice system. Researchers have validated these concerns and have identified that the interventions and prevention strategies currently instituted are not effective. Nonetheless, those techniques that are founded on restitution have shown immense promise. Thus, it is necessary to create a plan of action to ensure that the current restitution system is holistic enough, a thing that can effectively achieved by applying Beniamin Mendelsohn’s philosophies and theories.

History of victimology
While writings about the victim of the crime existed as early as 1764, it was not until Beniamin Mendelsohn introduced a series of works in the 1930s onward that victimology was accepted as a field. This was particularly so following the publication of the seminal work titled “A New Branch of Bio-Psycho-Social Science, Victimology.” In this work, Beniamin Mendelsohn mentioned the term victimology numerous times (Daigle, 2012). He went ahead to suggest that a need for the establishment of an international society of victimology exists. The interest groups at that particular time saw the rationale in the call by Beniamin Mendelsohn. It was a result of this that they created the International Society of Victimology.
