According to the JuriGlobe site, there are five types of laws and these include the civil, customary, Muslim, common, and mixed system laws (University of Ottawa, 2017). The civil law system according to Merryman and Pérez-Perdomo (2007) is a set of rules delineating private rights and remedies, and governing disputes between individuals and organization in areas such as property, contracts, and family. The researcher added that civil law reflects a classification of principles and rules that have been organized into codes and which can be accessed quickly and easily by jurists and citizens. Besides, civil law emphasizes on cooperation, predictability, and order, often founded on a dynamic and logical taxonomy, which was derived from the Roman law. Civil law is usually expressed to be an adaptable system with the principles or the codes avoiding excessive details and, at the same time, containing general clauses, which allow for adaptation to change (Reichel, 2016).
