Biometrics Use in Public and private Sectors and legal and Ethical Practice

Abstract

Biometrics is the use of human oriented characteristics for authentication.
In security operations, companies and organizations use biometrics for automated identifications and the controlled access (Radack, 2006).
Subsequent the high subjectivity of the biometric data, the security protocols drawn from the concept are always effective and accurate.

Biometric data uses the biometric identifiers to distinguish individuals, grant access to some, and deny it to others depending on the programming.
For increased efficiency, engineers divide the identifiers into two major groups: physiological and behavioral biometric identifiers.
Physiological identifiers are all the correspondences derived from the physical appearances of an individuals and include, DNA, hand geometry, retina, iris recognition, face recognition, palm print, finger printing etc.

On the other hand, behavioral identifiers include typing rhythm, voice, gait, and etcetera.
In the recent past, the use of biometrics has been applicable in both private and public sectors.

The paper investigates the common application of biometrics, regulation laws, and their evolution.
Most importantly, the paper evaluates the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Privacy to analyse the desired privacy in biometrics.
