Science comes from the Greek word for knowledge. Science is a field of study that focuses on knowledge that can be observed. In this way, scientists call this kind of knowledge empirical because it is based on data that can be tested. For example, the fact that water can exist in three forms — as liquid, a solid (ice) or as a gas (steam) is founded upon experience. Experience shows that water exists in these forms.
