II.Definitions: “General Education” refers to the core set of courses that all undergraduate students must take in order to graduate.

• Humanities- and social science-based General Ed classes prepare culturally and linguistically diverse student populations for practical matters students will encounter in most professions, including verbal and written communication, critical thinking, logical reasoning, research, data analysis, and writing reports.

2.Philosophy 101 or Intro to Logic: introduces students to logical reasoning and critical thinking
3.Into to the Social Sciences: Anthropology: introduces students to cultural diversity and cultural competency necessary to negotiate a multi-cultural professional environment. Sociology: introduces students to how to think critically when using statistics and issues of race, gender, class, and ethnicity in the U.S.

•In other countries, like in Latin America, students spend more time specializing in their field of practice, i.e. students go straight from secondary to college where they specialize in their field, graduating in 5 years, including those with licenses (lawyers, therapists) and those with medical degrees (dentists, doctors)

IV.Conclusion: General Education Requirements prepare all students for post-academic work, therefore they must be required for all students to graduate from their respective programs.
