Figure and Caption Assignment

The data set below is a time series, i.e., successive values were obtained at equal time intervals. The values correspond to actual measurements, but rather than reveal the source to you, invent a study where such values might be observed. The data, for example, could be meteorological, geological, chemical, physical, or economic.

Your assignment is to produce a publication quality figure in camera ready form. The values shown were rounded to the nearest tenth, so there is no need to include error bars in your figure. The data are provided below, and can easily be pasted into an EXCEL worksheet. The journal editor (i.e., your professor) requests that the figure and caption fit into a 3” wide by 4” tall area. The figure must be black and white, with no gray tones. The figure caption should appear directly below the figure.

You may use any program to prepare your figure. You should model the format of both the figure and the caption after figures you have seen in technical journals. Your axes must be labeled and indicate units. You might also consider adding a “trend line” to the figure.
