Figure and Caption Assignment

The data set below is a time series, i.e., successive values were obtained at equal time intervals. The values correspond to actual measurements, but rather than reveal the source to you, I will ask you to invent a study where such values might be observed. The data, for example, could be meteorological, geological, chemical, physical, or economic.

Your assignment is to produce a publication quality figure in camera ready form. The values shown were rounded to the nearest tenth, so there is no need to include error bars in your figure. The data are available in single column format at our Epsilen website, and can easily be pasted into an EXCEL worksheet. The journal editor (i.e., your professor) requests that the figure and caption fit into a 3” wide by 4” tall area. The figure must be black and white, with no gray tones. The figure caption will appear directly below the figure, and must also be no more than 3” wide, with 10 point type.

You may use and program or programs of your choice to prepare your figure.   The finished product should be camera ready, and should be actual size (requiring no magnification or reduction).   You should model the format of both the figure and the caption after figures you have seen in technical journals. Your axes must be labeled and indicate units. You might also consider adding a “trend line” to the figure.
