I. In the modern day world, the rampant infiltration of interactive and rich digital communication platforms, most notably the Internet, has made information sharing more seamless than before.
II. People, from as young as 5 years, can now familiarize with what is going around them by viewing Internet content.
III. While this is the case, fundamental challenges have been on the fore, with exposure to sexually explicit media, often abbreviated as SEM, being the most critical especially for adolescents.
IV. Sexually explicit media refers to visual portrayal of nudity that might reveal genitals and sexual activities involving genitals such as anal, oral, and vaginal sex.
V. Each day, volumes of SEM is posted online and, according to Jochen and Valkenburg (2008), the recipients are mostly adolescents and young adults.
VI. In the research paper, the various positions surrounding the question of whether to protect adolescents from sexually explicit media will be critically explored.
