Mostly behaviorism focuses on individualâ€™s behavior as subscribed from social and psychological environments. Before 1950â€™s the theory was applicable in examining radical behavior and developing social pattern methods. However, psychologists later used the approach to develop the behavioral therapy methodology. Behavioral therapy is a psychotherapy intervention that seeks to offer diagnosis by analysing individualsâ€™ behavior and the emotions, feelings and predispositions that led to the actions. As such, behaviorists attempt to decipher the subjective feelings of an individual and give an objective summary of responsible internal and external forces. In application, Behavioral therapy exists in three major theories, which include social learning behaviors, applied behavior analysis, and cognitive behavior therapy. Examining the history and the role of behaviorism offers an opportunity to seek an understanding of behaviorism by exploring the major contributors to the theory and their influence on the development of the behavioral therapy used in contemporary psychology. The Purpose of this paper is to examine the relevance of behaviorism in the development of behavioral therapy. The paper examines the relationship between behaviorism as applied in 1950â€™s and the behavioral therapy. The analysis is also inclusive of significant figures that used their independent research to derive a behavioral therapy from the concept of behaviorism, which was the central tenet in social sciences such as sociology and political science.
