Module 8 Signature Assignment:
Your signature assignment will be a research paper about a topic or theory in cognitive psychology that you are interested in exploring further. The paper should follow this outline:

1. 1. Introduction to the topic you have chosen and why
2. 2. In-depth description of the neurological foundations and
processes related to your topic.
3. 3. Introduce any criticisms to the theory or conflicting areas
of research in the area
4. 4. Analyze how this topic can be applied to other fields.
5. 5. Conclusion – this last section should summarize your
paper and offer suggestions for possible future research in this topic.
The Signature Assignment will be a 5-8 page essay (excluding cover page and references).

Your essay should have a cover page and reference page. Abstracts are not required.
Must be double-spaced with 1-inch margins and typed in 12-point Times New Roman.

Schizophrenia remains an elusive disorder in the U.S. and other locations in the world today. The reason for the prominence of the condition is its complex nature ranging from related statistics to symptoms. Even though new research on the disorder is always on the fore, efforts to contain the disease have failed to deliver optimal outcomes. It might be because medical researchers are never comprehensive enough because of their tendency to focus on specific topics concerning the disease. To understand Schizophrenia better, it is pertinent to bring the various dynamics of the disease together. Hence, in this paper, Schizophrenia will be described and the relevant symptoms outlined. Besides, statistics related to the disorder, the causes of the disease, available interventions, and the way the illness can influence the patient and their family will be highlighted.
Describing the disorder
According to the National Institute of Mental Health (2018a), Schizophrenia is not only a chronic but also severe cognitive disease that often affects the manner in which an individual feels, thinks, and behaves. A more robust definition, however, is presented by Hobson (2004). The two scholars identify that Schizophrenia represents an enduring mental disorder that encompasses a collapse in the way thoughts, behavior, and emotion relate with each other, thereby causing damaged awareness, withdrawal from personal relationships and reality into misapprehension and imagination, inapt moods and engagements, and a sense of mental disintegration.
Symptoms of Schizophrenia
The National Institute of Mental Health (2018a) relates that the inception of Schizophrenia symptoms is often between 16 and 30 years. However, children might exhibit the signs, but on rare cases. The agency confers that the manifestations of the disorder usually fall into three critical categories, namely, negative, positive, and cognitive. Positive signs are depicted through psychotic behaviors that are not typified by healthy individuals (National Institute of Mental Health, 2018a). Such include deliriums, disorderly thoughts or dysfunctional/unusual thinking patterns, delusions, and mobility disorders, also referred to as agitate mobility.
Negative Schizophrenia symptoms are manifestations associated with disruption of the behaviors and emotions empirically determined as normal. The National Institute of Mental Health (2018a) claims that negative symptoms come in four major ways. Foremost is through the flat affect, which reflects shrinking expression of emotions through voice tone or facial countenance. The second way that negative symptoms are portrayed is through reduced feelings of pleasure in things or activities especially those that a patient used to enjoy before. Third, a person might show moderate to severe difficulties in initiating and sustaining activities. Fourthly, the Schizophrenia patient is likely to engage in less speaking.
Addressing cognitive symptoms, the National Institute of Mental Health (2018a) clarifies that for some clients, the manifestations might be subtle, but for other patients, the signs might be more severe such that an individual will note shifts in their ability to recall or other thinking aspects.
