Persuasive Speech on CPR
Objective: To persuade my audience to learn CPR
Specific objective: to persuade my audience to learn CPR and the importance of this knowledge in the event of a cardiac emergency.
Introduction: My experience as an EMT and CPR usage.

■ Visual: picture of man who was saved!
Main Point 1: CPR is a live saving technique, even if not breaths are provided.
Support 1: 70 percent of Americans may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they do not know how to perform CPR or are fearful they will do it wrong, yet 88% of cardiac emergencies occur within the home or public locations.
- CPR may be needed to help someone you love because these events often occur at home.
Support 2: Immediate administration of CPR by a bystander can triple a victim’s chances of survival
- Explain statistic to audience in fun way
Support 3: one of the main reasons bystanders fail to perform CPR is because they believe breaths are required. Hands-only CPR is a great alternative and even suggested over CPR with breaths in situations where the victim is unknown to the bystander.
- Explain what hands-only CPR is
- Just as effective as conventional CPR
Main Point 2: CPR is important in everyday life.
Support 1: Example of young athlete who fell unconscious during sport and required CPR from bystanders.
Support 2: ¼ of Americans report being in a situation where CPR was required
Support 3: Waiting around for first responders is a waste of time, when time is crucial in this life or death event
Main Point 3: CPR is easy to learn!!

Support 2: Hands only CPR is two steps
- Call 911
- Place hands in the middle of the chest and push hard and fast (to the beat of Stayin’ Alive)

Conclusion: With all this information in mind, seek official training for hands-only and healthcare provider lever CPR. More than likely, the life you are trying to save will be the life of someone you love!
