CENTRAL IDEA:
Solar energy has the potential to revolutionize the way we generate energy I the future. Knowing the way solar panels and power plants work would help us appreciate the energy potential of the Sun even more.

Attention Getter:
In the beginning, I have one question for you: Why does the Sun go to school? Any ideas? The answer is: to get brighter! Okay, I know that many of us like Sun because we like to go tanning on the beach by the ocean, but that it seems the U.S. politicians nowadays do not appreciate the full potential of Sun as much as they need to. According to a recent CNBC article, Donald Trump pledged to revive the American coal industry, and during the first year of his mandate, the U.S. production of coal increased in 2017 (CNBC, 2018). However, in 2015 the UN member states including the United States pledged to ensure “universal access to affordable electricity by 2030 means investing in clean energy sources such as solar, wind and thermal,” through adopting the Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (UNDP, 2018). If the United States wants to fulfil its international commitments, it needs to start thinking about switching to sustainable energy sources. Even though many people heard about solar power, not many people know how the technology that transforms solar power into electric current work.
