Interview an older (60+ years of age) family member, neighbor or friend about their experiences and perceptions when they were younger surrounding one of the subject areas described in your textbook ( ex. crime, deviance, socialization, educational and religious systems, stratification, race and ethnicity). Incorporate sociological concepts from various chapters and at least one theoretical perspective in your analysis (Conflict, Functionalist or Symbolic Interactionist). Use your interview responses and scholarly sources (minimum of four sources) as the basis for our analysis.

Write an evaluation summarizing the information gathered from their interview and your modern day perceptions of race relations and compare/contrast the two. In the process, you should evaluate the following questions:
a. ) What messages do we receive from others about allegedly “positive” attributes or “negative” attributes of members of other social groups or our own social groups (ei. Social groups based on gender, social class, race and/or ethnicity)?

b.) How does early socialization affect our self-identity (include gender and/or racial socialization where applicable)?

c.) How does it affect our attitudes and actions toward others? Use the formatting guidelines below and review the grading rubric as a guide in constructing your assignment.

Karen, a 61-year-old white woman living in San Diego, is originally from Woodbridge, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC. Although she went to college for one year, she decided to end her college career at that time to marry her high school sweetheart. Most of her friends continued their college career while she decided to elope instead and focus on working. She chose to work as a secretary and transcriptionist in various vocations, including the court system, before and after having her first child at 23. Her husband, a sheet metal mechanic, did not make enough money to support the family on his own, so Karen decided to continue working instead of staying home to raise her daughter.
