Communication creates strong relationships, or so the experts say. So digital relationships based on sending and receiving many texts should be extra strong, right?
Maybe not. About 82% of young adults say they text their romantic partner many times a day, that doesn’t always mean more relationship happiness.
When it came to the number of messages, men who texted more often in general reported being unhappier in their relationships than men who didn’t text their romantic partners as frequently. The researchers think this might be because as men consider a separation or break-up, they replace face-to-face conversations with more distant communication. Therefore, they text more often rather than talk.
Women who texted more often, on the other hand, said that they were happier with their relationships. Used texting to apologize, work out their differences, and make decisions — in other words, when their relationship was having problems. As their connection with their loved one decreased, women tried to make things better through texts. This, scientists believe, is the online version of the need to “talk things out.”
The researchers say that such understanding about how texting creates differences in how romantic partners communicate could lead to more knowledge about when texting helps a relationship, and when it doesn’t. For now, texting seems to be best at the start of a new romance, and better left alone when bigger problems happen.

Researchers have found that men and women rely on texting in relationships for different purposes. In relationships texting is an additional form of communication but has many disadvantages. This paper will discuss three disadvantages of texting in relationships. The first is the severity or harshness of the message, the second is the lack of physical contact, and the third disadvantage is the replacement of face-to-face communication. The first disadvantage that will be examined is the harshness of the messages.
One of the disadvantages of texting is the harshness of the message communicated. When couples become angry with each other through text messaging, they will text message to one and other things that they normally would not say in person. For example, if one person asks another person to do them a favor such as pick something up from the grocery store on their way home. Maybe the person who worked all day is too tired and texts back an answer of no they don’t feel like it. The other person gets angry at them and can lash out with hurtful texts such as they are lazy and unreliable....
