The way America uses water should be of great concern especially because of what is going on in California "after four years of drought California is now at its driest for 500 years, scientists have found. The heat has left the Golden State with almost no snowpack in the mountains, which is critical for replenishing the state’s water reservoirs” (California Drought, 2015). According to the EPA "The average American family of four uses 400 gallons of water per day" (EPA). In order to conserve water and combat drought America needs to adopt better water conservative technologies and policies.
The paper should be six to eight pages in length (double-spaced), plus a reference page, and should use a minimum of eight credible sources. Be sure to follow the CSU-Global APA documentation style. For your topic, identify a local or global social problem that can be proven to exist and has potential to be solved. At the top of your outline, include an open-ended research question that asks how the problem can be solved.

Water is used for almost every aspect in the daily life, from drinking and cooking to transport and electricity production. Even though that the planet Earth is 70% covered in water, 97% of the planet is salt ocean water that is not drinkable or convenient for the uses mentioned. In numerous areas in the world the availability of fresh water is an increasing issue as the demand is substantially higher than supply of it.
In the developed countries there exists a high number of ways that the household water usage can be improved. Statistical results show that a minimum of 25 gallons per day is required per capita to meet the daily basic needs, however the expenditure of water per capita is on average 100 gallons per day according to the research. When the reduction in household consumption would occur, the total water consumption would drastically change leading to a lower pressure on the development of large water supply facilities and systems such as water pumps and water distribution networks. Less wastewater would be generated and therefore incur lower wastewater costs of facilities and energy.
However, water saving can result in the new development from the saved water which can actually even increase the water usage end exacerbate water scarcity, leading to the Jevons paradox, where saving actually results in higher spending.
