Make up a teacher Interview with a Kindergarten Teacher.

To begin your interview, ask such introductory questions as:

• What ages of children do you work with?
• What are the demographics of the children and families with whom you work?
• How long have you been working with children?
• What do you enjoy most about your work?
• Why did you choose to go into this field?
• What do you hope to accomplish as a teacher?

Then, engage in a discussion that will enable you to increase your knowledge about education, teaching, and the field that the teacher is involved in; consider your own assumptions/misconceptions; think about similarities and differences between what you have read in the Learning Resources and what this teacher shares; and gain additional insights. Following are some questions to spark your conversation:

• What do you believe are the essential components of quality education at the grade level that you teach?
• Describe an ideal learning environment or learning experience for children at the grade level that you teach.
• In what ways do you believe that families should be involved in their children’s education and why?
• What advice do you have for people who are new to working with children and their families?
• What do you wish that you learned while you were preparing to work with children and families?
• How do you keep current on the latest research and thinking in your field?
• Do you have any books, resources, and/or professional organizations that you can recommend?
• What is the most valuable lesson that you have learned about working with young children and their families so far in your career?
• Who is the person in your field who you most admire, and why?
