I have struggled with mathematics in school. For example, with long division and trigonometry. Mathematics is cumulative, and I learned this the hard way! I had 'fallen off the wagon' and it was difficult to get back on :) But I was fortunate to have remedial lessons with inspiring teachers. Since then I have done many homework assignments and taken many exams. Exams can be difficult or they can be fun. Something that one looks forward to! But any way you cut it, mathematics does require time and attention. The upside of this is that one gets more context for new material. New methods for solving problems can then be used for checking the answer.
I realize that even though mathematics can be a lot of fun, it does have a structure and all of us have our individual perceptions based on our experiences. The fundamental aspect of tutoring is that we all are always learning! I am ready to consider any particular question you might have!
