About Matt

I began my career as a Computer Engineer, graduating from Georgia Tech with an M.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering. I worked in this field for several years before returning to school to pursue my primary interest of studying and teaching mathematics.

I received a B.S. in Mathematics from University of Minnesota, an M.A. in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Montana, and both an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Rochester. I taught a wide variety of mathematics courses at all of these institutions, and supported myself by tutoring other students on the side.

I served a prestigious three-year term as an L.E. Dickson Instructor of Mathematics at the University of Chicago. Here I taught some of the best students in the world, and consistently received extremely complimentary evaluations from my students. I was known for converting students into mathematics majors in my courses.

During this time I also coached the University of Chicago's team at the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) for two years, culminating in a 4th place finish out of 72 participants in the 2016 competition.

I still continue to train students for competitions (Putnam, Virginia Tech, Central Connecticut State, etc.).

I look forward to helping all students reach their mathematics potential.
