Overall Rating:I have been working as the main music tutor at 24houranswers.com for almost four years. I finished a PhD in musicology at UC Santa Cruz in June 2017. My main interests in music focus on music and philosophy, and music in culture. I have taught music theory, music history, world music, and composition. I have been a teacher assistant for many courses: the music of Israel, the music of the Grateful Dead, music and the world wide web, film music, the history of jazz, and many others.
My dissertation is an ethnographic study of experimental ‘noise music’ artists in Los Angeles. My master’s thesis was a study of electroacoustic music in Chile. My bachelor thesis was a study of the philosophy and ideology of the Russian composer Alexander Scriabin, with an application of his ideologies applied to an analysis of his final piano pieces, opus 74.
I am also an active musician and songwriter in Los Angeles. I play in three bands that enjoy a medium profile in the local scene. My bands have opened for Missing Persons, My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult, Ravens Moreland (of Wall of Voodoo), and Pylon: these bands were regularly played on the radio in the 1980s and 1990s. I play electric guitar, bass, synthesizer, and piano.
