I am a native English speaker from Sydney, Australia. I completed my Bachelor of Advanced Science at the University of New South Wales in 2013. I achieved solid marks in chemistry, ecology, and biotechnology/molecular biology courses. I majored in microbiology and genetics, and went on to undertake my Honours (1-year research project with thesis) in genetics, focusing on small RNA, epigenetic inheritance and extracellular vesicles.
I enjoyed the adventure of research so much that I continued my Honours project for my PhD, which I completed in 2018. In my PhD I used in vitro systems of mammalian (PC2) and bacterial cell culture, and laboratory mice on an daily basis to investigate my hypothesis. I have also constructed, processed and analysed next-generation small RNA libraries (Illumina), and processed and analysed gene expression microarray data (Affymetrix). I am comfortable Unix, Python, Perl and R, and have experience working with cloud computing (National Computer Infrastructure Australia and PBS job submission system).
I excelled as presenting my own work in the form of award-winning poster and oral presentations at many national and international scientific conferences, and in scientific publications. I have relished the opportunity to directly supervise undergraduate laboratory interns, which has spurred my change of career path from researcher to educator.
