Once the father of Lucius, a Roman boy, returned from the Forum and reported that there would be a triumph of Caesar and afterwards great games. At that time Caesar was a great Roman, because he had conquered Gaul, Alexandria, Pontus, and Africa. He had remained in Gaul for ten years, and after he had overcome many thousands of Gauls, he had reduced that large region into a province of Rome.
Lucius had never seen a triumphal march and asked many things about it. His father told him that the triumph was like a parade, in which the victor showed many soldiers, captives, and much booty. Lucius, with his three good friends, could scarcely wait, and he wished to go to the Circus immediately.
The father hoped to find a good place from which the boys could watch the triumph, and they all hastened to the Circus. The father gave a man a few gold coins, and they were sent to a place in the second row of seats. Lucius and his companions saw many boys in the seats whom they recognized, and all rejoiced when the great leader Caesar came into the Circus. The boys shouted and waved their hands in the air, for this was a great day for them.
